In a letter sent to the Dutch Parliament about her activities during the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Lilianne Ploumen, highlighted the WPP side event on involving religious leaders in peace and gender equality work. Minister Ploumen was the key note speaker at the WPP panel on "Involving Religious Leaders in Gender Equality Work: Innovative Practices and Challenges from the Field", which took place on March 11 at the Permanent Mission of the Netherlands. Within the letter to the Parliament, sent last week, the Minister highlights the need of a constructive dialogue with conservative actors on gender equality. Within these dialogues, the Minister notes that it is important to emphasize on common agendas and shared ideas, while simultaneously keep discussing contested issues.
WPP welcomes the intention of the Minister to remain involved in issues of faith-based peacebuilding for the advancement of the gender equality agenda. We are looking forward to build upon the joint panel discussion at the CSW.
