Over 340 Endorsements of Feminist Declaration for Post 2015!

5 Mar '14

Great news! Over 340 international, regional and national organizations in 143 countries have endorsed the Feminist Declaration for Post 2015, calling for a sustainable development agenda based on gender, economic, social and ecological justice. This is a strong message to the UN, calling for member states to come up with a truly transformative Post 2015 agenda.

Group picture 1The Feminist Declaration for Post 2015 was the result of the Feminist Strategy Meeting held in Tarrytown, New York, during the second week of February. The meeting was organized by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL), Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN), the International Planned Parenthood Federation – Western Hemisphere Region (IPPF/WHR), the Realizing Sexual and Reproductive Justice Alliance (RESURJ), and Women in Europe for a Common Future (WECF).

The three-day meeting brought together 60 representatives of feminist and women’s rights organizations and networks, working on sexual and reproductive rights and health, environment, agriculture, economic and social rights, peace and security, gender-based violence and women’s human rights generally, with the aim of producing a shared vision and strategy toward 2015.

WPP actively contributed to the discussions during the meeting, and to the formulation of the Declaration, by calling attention to the connections between development, women’s rights, and peace and security issues, and the need to invest in a Post 2015 agenda that includes a transformative peace and security perspective.

During the past weeks, we disseminated the Feminist Declaration widely within our global network, and are happy to see that so many have signed on! Together we have created a strong signal of the need to listen to the voices of the people, and the urgency of investing in a Post 2015 framework, rooted in alternative models of development that uphold peace, security, equality and human rights for all and for the wellbeing of nature and of the planet in the coming decades.

We encourage you to disseminate this declaration further; to discuss it within your organization, network and community; to use it in your lobby and advocacy processes - whatever you deem appropriate!
