The Women Peacemakers Program (WPP) strongly condemns the eruption of excessive violence in Gaza. Already subjected to violence and human rights violations due to the continued occupation, the human conditions for Palestinians in Gaza are deteriorating rapidly with the disproportionate use of violence used by the Israeli government. We call for an immediate cease-fire, for an end to the violence against the civilian population, for adherence to International Human Rights Law, and for a renewal of the peace process.
Building upon UNSCR 1325, sustainable peace is only possible with the active participation of women in conflict resolution and peacebuilding processes. Given the impact of the occupation and violence on Palestinian women, they have to be involved in any peace process as an agent of change.
WPP supports the following statements issued by partners:
The Palestinian Working Woman Society for Development (PWWSD) statement
The Palestine Link statement (in Dutch)
Please find below suggestions for action you can take:
- Sign the petition by Avaaz, which calls on Dutch pension fund ABP and other major companies to stop investing in companies in the Israeli settlements that are illegal according to International Law (see also the statement by former Special Rapporteur Richard Falk);
- Add your name to the call for a military embargo by the BDS Movement;
- Use social media to follow organizations such as Palestine Link (Dutch), PWWSD and War Resisters International and disseminate their statements and calls for peace.
